Message from the President
Welcome to the Junior League of Johnson City (JLJC) website. I invite you to take a moment to look over our website to learn more about our organization and how you can get involved to IMPACT our community. The mission of the JLJC focuses on three major areas: promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. These three focuses have been a strong driving force for our organization over the past years. The Junior League of Johnson City has been a vital part of the Johnson City community since the 1940's and has played an instrumental roll in addressing many issue areas in our community.
We are very proud and excited to announce that during the Spring of 2010, the JLJC members voted to focus our time and monies to a current issue facing our community, literacy. We plan to collaborate and partner with other organizations in our area to address literacy issues in the Johnson City and Washington County area. By focusing on literacy, we feel that we will greatly be able to IMPACT our community. Please contact us at info@juniorleagueofjc.com to learn more about partnering with our League.
In addition to our literacy focus we also join with the Association of Junior Leagues International to address childhood obesity. For the past couple of years, the JLJC has held an event called Kids in the Kitchen. This event helps educate children on healthy eating habits, exercising and food nutrition. This year we plan to expand this program by offering it twice during the year. We plan to collaborate and partner with other organizations to reach out to children in the Johnson City and Washington County area.
In addition to IMPACTing our community by focusing on literacy and childhood obesity, we also develop the potential of our members by providing training opportunities to help members become civic and community leaders. We feel that not only developing the potential of our members is important, but also promoting volunteerism within our community. We feel that by encouraging and engaging others we will be able to make a greater IMPACT in our community.
To fund our mission and focus on literacy and childhood obesity, we invite you to participate in our fundraisers. We will hold Touch A Truck on September 25, 2010 at the Appalachian Fairgrounds. This is a family event that allows kids to get an up close look at the many vehicles that the see on the road each day. We will also hold our annual Bag A Bargain at the Appalachian Fairgrounds on March 26, 2011. This is a huge sale of furniture, clothing, toys and many other items for the community. Also, the League continues to follow the long standing tradition of selling our very famous cookbooks. Please take some time to look over the fundraising information our website to find out more about how you can support our mission and our focus on literacy and childhood obesity.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about our organization!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Clements
